Year End
Awards Banquet
Monday, February 7th, 2005
Adirondack Club, Franklin, MA
Hold onto your hats - Debbie McDonald
will be speaking at our Banquet!
The Annual Year End Awards Banquet
will be held on Monday, February 7th, 2005 beginning at 6:00 PM,
at the Adirondack Club
in Franklin. There will be door prizes, a silent auction, Debbie’s
talk, awards presented, oh and a wonderful buffet. Just think,
you can get your award handed to you by Debbie McDonald! Sure beats
the likes of Pam
and me!
During this past summer’s Olympics, Debbie and her 13 year old chestnut
mare Brentina, led the U.S. Olympic Dressage Team to the team Bronze Metal in
Dressage, as well as finishing 4th Individually. Also in 2004 they won the Freestyle
Championships; went to Germany and showed in Dortmund where they won the Grand
Prix and the Grand Prix Special. In 2003 Debbie and Brentina were given a Wild
Card for the World Equestrian Games in Gothenburg, Sweden. They went on to win
the World Cup title, the first Americans to hold such a title. They were also
members of the U.S. team in 2003 that went to Achen, Germany where they won team
silver and bronze individual. This was a team repeat of what had happened the
year before (2002) at the World Equestrian Games in Spain. The list of wins and
first goes on and on.
What is especially wonderful is the partnership Debbie has with Brentina, her
13 year old chestnut mare. “You can tell when a horse has affection for
a person, how they light up when that person comes in the barn,” said Brentina’s
owner Peggy Thomas. “They have a very deep companionship, those two.” Debbie
has a video, Brentina: From Idaho to Athens that we have in our new video
library,
as well as one copy, autographed, that we will have at the Banquet to be either
added to the silent auction or given as a door prize!
Despite being small in stature, short of leg, and being asked repeatedly at major
competitions, “Whose mother are you?”, Debbie stands out as an empowering
role model to us all.
Tickets must be purchased in advance for the Banquet. Space is limited and CRDA
members will be given preference until January 30th, at which point the remaining
spaces will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis by postmark, non-members
and members alike. With Debbie as keynote speaker, we expect the tickets to sell
out quickly, so be sure to send in your check as soon as possible. Cost, including
a buffet dinner is $25 members, and member’s children under 12 years of
age $15; $40 non-members. 2005
