CRDA - Heard Along the Fence Line - 03/04

Mud Season is upon us. Finally it’s warm enough to be outside, but now the ground is like quicksand. Jeepers is delighted to have her blankets removed and be able to partake in that age old beauty treatment offered by exclusive spas the world over, a mud bath. I am impressed with her ability to completely cover herself with mud. I envision her sitting on the ground, dabbing a bit of mud here and a bit of mud there, making sure that every inch, including those hard to reach parts are covered.

Okay, I wrote that over the weekend, when it WAS in the 60’s. And now as I do my final review before sending this out the trees and ground are covered with snow and Jeeps has her blankets back on! What’s a girl to do?!?!?

We are off and running with our busy calendar of events. The Centered Riding Clinic on March 21st is full, with a waiting list even. But there are still plenty of spaces for auditors. Deb Moynihan will begin at 8:00 AM with the unmounted exercises for everyone, riders and auditors alike. This should be lots of fun. She told me some of the exercises will be done on a trampoline and others on those big physio balls and others … well come and find out. Contact Carolyn Wolfe at (401) 353-1204 or wylecoyote@cox.net. Auditing is $5 for members; $7.50 non-members. Please pre-register if possible.

April 2nd and 3rd will be Kelli Mason’s Musical Freestyle Clinic. I audited this one last year. Kelli does a great job at making sense of all the requirements of how to get started for those even just thinking about trying to ride to music. And for those further along, well she will be working with one rider on Saturday who already has her music section – so we will get to see how a freestyle is choreographed. Friday, April 2nd is an evening of discussion, explanation, and videos, with lots of laughs along the way. Saturday, April 3rd is the mounted clinic. Friday night only is $5 members/$10 non-members. Semi-privates: $55 members; $65 non-members. The lesson price includes Friday night’s discussion. Contact Kelli Mason at (508) 278-9905 or kelli@letterperfectfarm.com.

May means our first Schooling Show with Opening Date for Entries March 28. This show fills up fast so be sure to get your entries in. Check our web site crdressage.org for an entry form and show information. The judges for this show will be Ruth Sarkunas, R, and Crystal Taylor, L. If you have any problems with the web, let me know and I can mail/fax you the entry form.

May also means the Adult Camp, 21st – 23rd. This year the Camp filled up before the ink was dry on the announcements! There is a waiting list, but feel free to add your name. We are also doing a lunchtime lecture series at Camp starting off with Friday night demo ride by Jennifer Baumert. I know you are saying to yourselves lunchtime lectures series starting off with a Friday night demo?!?! Go figure! Friday afternoon is Holly Mason and her "Focus on Flexibility". This is about flexibility for the rider. We spend so much time working on flexibility for our horses that we don’t add ourselves, the rider, into the equation; Saturday is Lisa Keer Carusone, equine massage therapist; Sunday is Dr. Steve Katz, human and equine Chiropractor and saddle fitter. Cost to audit is $15/day (you can watch all the lessons you want) or $35 for the 3-days for members. Non-members $20/day or $55 for 3 days. Contact Kelli Masonat at (508) 278-9905 or kelli@letterperfectfarm.com.

Also at Camp this year will be a Used Tack Sale. Let Kelli know if you have anything you want to sell. And everyone is invited to come and check out all the stuff we will have for sale.

I could go on and on about the upcoming events, but I will contain myself. Stay tuned, for we have even more in the works!

See you in the saddle
Jamie
